Rachel Huggett

Sculptor, Community Artist

"One of my main inspirations is natural, organic form. Working with wood, stone, metal and other natural mediums, I look to develop the interconnection between the material and the subject matter as I work, one informing the other."

Rachel is one of 8 artists who exhibit artwork at the Boilerhouse Gallery, Corfe Castle in Purbeck where she also has her studio. Graduating from art college in 1998 she has over 20 years experience creating and teaching art.

She collaborates with schools and community groups on a variety of interesting workshops and projects and also has long experience working with disadvantaged people. In 2012, she helped set up Zoofish Arts, a CIC that specialises in work with service users. The ethos behind her workshops is to help participants develop new and existing skills, generate confidence and to have fun.

Commissions are another aspect of her work: she designed the Central Feature at Seldown Park, Poole, for Poole Borough Council, did a mosaics and woodcarving external commission for the West Dorset Mental Health Building, Dorchester, created 3 sculptures for the entrance to Linwood School, made a "Magna Carta" mosaic panel for the entrance to Bearwood school with the pupils.
