Rachel is passionate about wildlife and woodlands. Her interest
in sustainability and ecology are evident in her work, bringing
an understanding of nature to her workshops. She is a member
of the Dorset Coppice Group and helps to manage their hazel
coppice. As the coppicing encourages
new growth it promotes a natural habitat for native wildflowers
and insects. Much of the subject
matter for her commission work reflects the wildlife found
in local woodlands and is based on the natural materials found
there. Experimenting with natural materials is also a key
part of her studio-based work. She uses willow, hazel, various
hard and soft woods, cob, chalk, wool and more to create sculpture
and multimedia work.
