Rachel Huggett is an artist who enjoys
working in community art, especially in areas in need of regeneration.
She teaches across a range of different groups from primary
school children to senior citizens and has also run workshops
with prisoners, substance misusers, homeless, and special needs
groups.
Recently she completed a series of sculpture
workshops as artist in residence at Wendell Park Primary school,
London and was commissioned to do a bench for the playground
based on the project.
Other public art commissions for woodlands,
parks, gardens schools and community centres include: nature
markers and trails, totem poles, mosaics, carved oak benches
and murals.
An enthusiastic supporter of conservation
and education of the natural environment she tries to impart
the wonder of the forest and woodlands to relevant workshops.
Her own practice draws on inspiration from
shapes in the natural environment and she explores aboriginal
and existentialist themes. She also exhibits, does demonstrations
and private commissions.
